Configure your Pop-Up Blockers
The current versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox contain built in pop-up blockers. You will need to configure your browser to allow pop-ups from www.learnarchaeology.com since many features in the Learning Environment use pop-ups. To make sure you have pop-ups allowed, follow the steps below to manually check your pop-up settings.
Be aware there are other, pop-up blockers from third party vendors and Internet Service Providers. They are too numerous to document all of them. You should unblock www.learnarchaeology.com in them also.
Internet Explorer In Internet Explorer when you login, you may see the Information Bar which is a pale yellow bar just above the web page content and below the toolbars. This bar may warn you that a pop-up has been blocked. Click on this bar and choose Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site to configure IE to allow pop-ups. To check your pop-up settings manually, open Internet Explorer and click Tools > Internet Options. Click the Privacy tab at the top of the window and then the Settings button at the bottom of the Pop-up Blocker section. Make sure www.learnarchaeology.com is in the allowed sites list. If it is not: Enter www.learnarchaeology.com in the Address of Web site to allow box. Then click the Add button. Click Close and then OK to go back to the Internet Explorer main window.
Firefox In Firefox when you login, you may see an information bar which is a pale yellow bar just above the web page content and below the toolbars. This bar may warn you that a pop-up has been blocked. Make sure www.learnarchaeology.com is in the allowed sites list. If it is not: To check your pop-up settings manually, open Firefox and click Tools > Options. Click the Web Features icon to the left. Next to Block Popup Windows, click the Allowed Sites button. Make sure www.learnarchaeology.com is in the allowed sites list. If it is not: Enter www.learnarchaeology.com in the Address of web site box. Click the Allow button. Click OK and then OK to go back to the Firefox main window.
Google Chrome There is currently no setup for Popup Blocking directly in the Chrome browser. The shortcut on your desktop that is used to start the Google Browser (Chrome) will point at 'chrome.exe' on your hard disk. You need to edit the shortcut to add the commandline parameters (right click on the shortcut and left click on properties, the 'Shortcut tab' has a field called 'target' that's what you need to amend so the last part reads -disable-popup-blocking) depending on your set up it may look like this "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application ata\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" -disable-popup-blocking. The difference is made by adding -disable-popup-blocking at the end of the line.
Now enjoy using the virtual learning environment. |
